girl in Mexican cenote

1. Swim in Mexican cenotes

Want to have a unique travel adventure? Then you must add swimming in cenotes in Mexico to your bucket list!

Cenotes are natural underground pools with crystal clear waters that can be found all over the Yucatán Peninsula. They are created when a limestone bedrock collapses and exposes the groundwater underneath, creating a unique and mesmerizing oasis of underground pools. Cenotes also played an important role in the Mayan culture, and visiting them is part of exploring this incredible civilization.

Today, cenotes are an incredible place for scuba diving, snorkeling, and even cliff jumping if you’re brave enough! With their stunning landscapes and mesmerizing water colors, these magical places will make you feel like you stepped into another world.

If you want to visit the best cenotes in Yucatan, stay either in Valladolid or Tulum. There are many great cenotes near Valladolid, such as the Instagram-famous underground cenote Suytun or Cenote Oxman, which is partly open and offers fun rope-jumping.

Tulum is also a great destination for all cenote enthusiasts. Here you can dive in Gran Cenote and spot fish and turtles or kayak along the Casa Cenote, which resembles a river.

The best way to visit cenotes is to take one of the incredible cenote tours from Tulum or Valladolid or hire a car and explore all the caves and swimming pools independently.

Kazbegi - Gergety Trinity Church in Caucasus Mountains of Georgia

2. Climb Mount Kazbek in the Caucasus Mountains of Georgia

Any adventure junkie should definitely add the Caucasus Mountains in Georgia to their adventure bucket list ideas! The Caucasus Mountains have not been discovered by mass tourism yet, which makes this an extraordinary location for your next trip.

The best place to start your trip is Kazbegi. Kazbegi is the starting point for plenty of day hikes of the region, and it is also the gateway to climbing the majestic 5,054 meters high Mount Kazbek.

For those who are not familiar with climbing in the mountains and do not have any experience with high-altitude expeditions, it's best to contact a mountain climbing agency. And for those who want to experience the awe of the mountain without the stress of the climb, you can book a full-day tour from T'bilisi.

A reputable mountain climbing agency in Kazbegi that organizes this expedition is Mountain Freaks. Not only are they a great organization, but they are also a local organization, working with local guides who have been living their whole life at the foot of Mount Kazbek and know the region by heart.

What is also great is that everything you need for the trip can be rented at their agency in Kazbegi. This way, you won't have to bring all the climbing from home.

During the climb, you can choose to stay in a tent or in alpine huts. There are also options to have your backpack transferred by horses if carrying a heavy backpack would hold you back from going on this adventure.

great wall of china

6. Race along the Great Wall of China

When considering ideas for adventures, there are so many options! The Great Wall of China is the oldest and vastest man-made structure in the world, taking over 2,000 years to construct. Seeing this marvel should be on every adventurer’s bucket list.

7. Food fight at the La Tomatina Festival in Spain

La Tomatina is one of the best festivals in Valencia and it’s definitely not for the faint of heart. This world-renowned celebration should be added to your list of crazy bucket list ideas. It involves a massive tomato fight where participants throw ripe tomatoes at each other!

The festival typically takes place on the last Wednesday of August in the small town of Buñol, and attracts thousands of locals and tourists from all over the world.

The history of La Tomatina dates back to 1945 when a group of young people started a food fight in the town square. The next year, they repeated the event, and it became a tradition. The town authorities tried to ban the festival in the early years, but the locals continued to celebrate it, and it eventually became an official event in the 1950s.

La Tomatina offers a unique and thrilling experience. It can get extremely messy, but it is a lot of fun. The excitement and energy of the festival create an unforgettable atmosphere that attracts thrill-seekers from all over the world.

The tomato fight officially starts at 11 a.m., but most people arrive much earlier. During the wait, the biggest attraction is watching a bunch of guys try their luck at climbing a greased pole. Once the ham at the top of the pole is reached, tomato throwing can begin. The throwing is limited to one hour.

Due to safety concerns after 50,000 people crowded the streets one year, the event has become ticketed with admissions limited to 20,000 people. Purchasing your ticket as soon as possible is highly recommended.

Land diving in Pentecost, Vanuatu

8. Land dive in Pentecost, Vanuatu

Where is the birthplace of bungee jumping? If your first thought was Queenstown, then … you are wrong. If you then thought, “Okay, someplace else in New Zealand then”…. well, you are wrong again.

Modern-day bungee jumping evolved from a custom still found today on the South Pacific island of Pentecost in Vanuatu. The ritual is called Nagol, and it deserves a spot on every adrenaline junkie bucket list.

Nagol, or land diving, is a traditional custom from the south of this Melanesian island. It is performed between April and June.

Men jump from up to 30 meter high platforms with only two tree vines tied around their ankles. It is truly a sight to behold as local villagers chant and dance around the platform. It symbolizes manhood and celebrates the yam harvest.

The only way to see Nagol land diving would be by booking a tour from Port Vila on the main Vanuatu island. From there a private plane will take you to Pentecost island where you will be picked up and transported to the local village.

You will get a small tour of the village, which feels like stepping back in time. You will be assisted to the land diving site, where there will be a designated tourist spot to watch.

Villagers will be (un)dressed in their traditional outfits, and your heart might stop as you witness every jump. After the ritual, you will be served a simple lunch before returning back to the main island.

Seeing land diving is a terrifying, frightening, and jaw-dropping experience, but is one of the most incredible adrenaline adventures on the planet. People come from all corners of the world to see this magnificent festival. It should definitely be included on every adventure bucket list!

Adventurous Expeditions: Everest Base Camp in Nepal

9. Trek to Everest Base Camp in Nepal

It's no secret what Nepal is famous for - the country is home to some of the world's most spectacular mountains, including the legendary Mount Everest. Ascending to the top of the world is an adrenaline adventure unlike any other, and that's why hiking to Everest Base Camp (or beyond) should be on every adventurer’s list. The sense of accomplishment you'll feel just being in the presence of the towering 29,031 feet (8,848 meters) mountaintop is reason enough to attempt the trek.

On this 11-14 day journey, you can witness some of the most breathtaking scenery in the world, from majestic glacier icefalls to Sherpa villages and prayer flags that adorn the stunning mountain landscape. Along the way, you'll be immersed in the Sherpa people's vibrant culture, customs, and lifestyle.

For generations, they have lived near Everest, forming an intense bond with its surrounding areas. There is nothing but respect when you witness how the local porters effortlessly carry up heavy supplies on their backs—all without proper shoes!

Although you can arrange the trip logistics yourself, it is best to book a guided tour to have peace of mind that you will stay safe from altitude sickness while having everything taken care of: flights, permit fees, lodging, food, and support team.

Preparing for the trek is also incredibly important. Trekking to Everest Base Camp requires a good level of fitness, so training is essential to ensure you're ready for the challenge. You'll also need to pack smart for the weather conditions, another reason going with expert guides is highly recommended.

But don't let the logistics and preparation put you off. The journey to Everest Base Camp is the experience of a lifetime that will challenge you both mentally and physically. When you finally reach the top, you'll have a sense of pride and personal achievement that will stay with you forever.

Unique adventures: see Antarctica penguins

10. Visit Antarctica

One of the most unique adventures for explorers is a visit to Antarctica. The ice continent is the most remote place on earth, featuring unique geology and harsh wildlife.

Visiting Antarctica isn’t for the faint of heart. Most people get there with a cruise ship via Argentina. You can also fly from Australia.

However, a cruise provides ample opportunity to get up close to the breathtaking scenery. Cruises with less than 500 passengers also allow you to go on land.

Only 100 people are able to be on land at any time in order to protect nature. The larger ships are unable to land.

Visitors are allowed during the summer months – from November to March. Be sure to book your trip in advance for the best deals.

While the untouched nature of the continent is stunning, there are plenty of other things to do in Antarctica! Adventurers will love hiking up dormant volcanoes, or kayaking past icebergs and seals!

For an unforgettable night, you can go camping on the ice. And for the truly brave at heart (or crazy), you can take a polar plunge in the icy waters. All of these experiences will create memories that last a lifetime!

Antarctica’s beauty and nature make it a unique destination perfect for your adventure bucket list. Only about 75,000 people visit every year. Join this exclusive group and start planning your trip to Antarctica.

Great Barrier Reef in Australia

11. Snorkel or dive the Great Barrier Reef in Australia

Exploring Australia’s spectacular Great Barrier Reef is one of the top bucket list dreams for many. The Great Barrier Reef, one of the seven natural wonders of the world, spans more than 1,400 miles off the coast of North Queensland.

The best way to visit is by booking a snorkel and dive tour to the Great Barrier Reef. You can reach the reef via helicopter, catamaran, or sailboat. Tours depart primarily from Cairns, but also from other towns in North Queensland.

Snorkeling at an island or a moored pontoon platform on a day tour is the most popular activity at the Great Barrier Reef. Snorkelers will see any number of tropical fish and corals and may also encounter manta rays or green sea turtles.

Novice divers can get their PADI certifications while spending multiple days diving and exploring, and more adventurous visitors to the Great Barrier Reef can spend several days completing multiple dives on a liveaboard. Regardless of your level, you’ll have plenty of choices at the Great Barrier Reef.

Going to the Great Barrier Reef to snorkel or dive is one of the best adventure activities for adults because the reef is absolutely spectacular! Swimming with tropical fish through brightly colored coral is a true adventure that you’ll remember forever.

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest living structure and one of the most biodiverse locations in the world. The reef is under great threat from climate change, pollution, and overfishing, and its future is uncertain. Go to the Great Barrier Reef as soon as you can–you won’t regret the trip!

Ziplining in Costa Rica

12. Zipline in Costa Rica

One of the first things that should be on any adrenaline junkie’s bucket list is ziplining in Costa Rica. This is without a doubt one of the most thrilling yet pleasantly relaxing activities you can ever do.

Thanks to its beautiful landscape, Costa Rica has a whole host of ziplining locations, so no matter where you are in this amazing country, there’s bound to be a ziplining tour nearby. From the Monkey Jungle zipline in Tamarindo, to the Manuel Antonio Canopy tour, to ziplining over waterfalls at Adventure Park, this country has it all.

However, the most recommended ziplining experience is the Cloud Forest in Monteverde. While there are a few places to choose from, Monteverde Extremo Park is hands down the best. This park provides you with 11 different cables, the longest canopy ride at 4km, two superman cables and one terrifying Tarzan swing.

Apart from the Tarzan swing where you feel like you’ll never stop dropping, the highlight has to be the longest canopy in Costa Rica. It takes forever to complete, but you’ll wish it never stopped. You feel like you’re a bird looking at the cattle and fields below you, watching the world pass by!

If you’re looking to feel the wind in your hair, you absolutely have to come here! The best way of organizing Extremo Park is through a tour, your hostel/hotel, or on their official website. Make sure to book in advance as you don’t want to miss out on this great experience!

cinque terre

13. Hike Cinque Terre in Italy

There are so many wonderful reasons to visit Italy, from the breathtaking landscapes to the fabulous foods to the world class landmarks. Of all of the places in Italy, Cinque Terre is perhaps one of the most unique adventures.

Cinque Terre translates literally to “five towns, referring to the famous towns of Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. These seaside villages are set in the Ligurian coastline, offering stunning views of the sunset and plenty of character and charm.

The best part? They’re all connected by a network of hiking trails and a train line. Adventurers can hike north or south, visiting all of the towns and even venturing south of Riomaggiore towards Portovenere if they wish.

Although it’s possible to see Cinque Terre in a single day, try to budget an extra day or two if you can spare it so that you’re able to explore the areas just outside of the five towns. The town of Portovenere is full of little gems, usually offering treats and souvenirs at lower prices than you’ll find in the five towns.

For a jam-packed itinerary, start your day in Portovenere and hike to Riomaggiore. From there, you can take the train to see a few of the remaining towns and get a general sense of the area while beating some of the crowds.

awesome adventure: gorilla trekking in Uganda

14. Go gorilla trekking in Uganda

Seeing the mountain gorillas in Uganda is a truly awesome adventure. When planning a trip to Uganda, no itinerary is complete without including a guided trek into Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or Mgahinga Gorilla National Park to find the native and endangered gorillas. These apes cannot survive in captivity, so the only way to see them is on an adventurous hike into the African rainforest.

There are just over 1,000 mountain gorillas left in the world and the only places to see them are the national parks in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Rwanda. Uganda is the cheapest and best place to see the gorillas because it has 50% of the gorilla population living in its two national parks.

However, gorilla trekking in Uganda can have a hefty price. Most treks will be approximately 1-3 hours until the gorilla family is located. Once the gorillas are found, everyone in the group must stay at a distance of 10 meters from the gorillas and can view them for a maximum of 1 hour.

The best time to go on a gorilla trek is during the dry seasons of June-August or December-February.  However, these are peak season times so booking a gorilla permit at least six months in advance is advised.

During the rainy seasons, there is less demand for gorilla permits, but trekking up the mountains is much more difficult due to downpours. Though the rain makes the rainforest a beautiful bright green habitat, the hike becomes a treacherous, muddy, and slippery undertaking. Regardless, no matter what season you visit, porters are always available to help hikers travel through the forest, carrying heavy backpacks and providing hiking sticks to make the hike safer.

The best way to see mountain gorillas in Uganda is to take a safari tour that includes gorilla trekking. The mountains are on the outskirts of Uganda and on the west side of the country, away from the capital city of Kampala. Traveling to see the mountain gorillas with a tour guide leaving from Kampala is the easiest way to enjoy this bucket list adventure.

Kitesurfing in Essaouira, Morocco

16. Kitesurf in Essaouira, Morocco

Considering the fact that Essaouira, Morocco, has been coined the “Windy City of Africa”, it is no surprise that this fishing town - perched on the Atlantic Coast and boasting a long sandy beach - is one of the best places in the world for kitesurfing. Indeed, kitesurfing is one of the top things to do in Essaouria and one of the most unique adventure expeditions.

There are a number of kitesurfing lessons available in Essaouira. All the equipment, including wetsuits and helmets, is provided. All schools speak Arabic, French, English, and Spanish.

Be warned, kitesurfing isn’t for the faint of heart! It involves a fair bit of skill and a reasonable fitness level. Don’t expect to get the hang of it after just one lesson.

But for those who take on the challenge, it is truly an incredible experience. The feeling of a kite gliding you over the tops of waves, and being at one with both the power of wave and wind, is one of the most invigorating feelings in the world!

Essaouira's kitesurfing season generally starts in late March and runs all the way until September. However, with almost-year round winds, you can kitesurf most months in Essaouira.

July is perhaps the most popular month when the average wind speed is 35 kmph, with gusts of 55+ kmph. But there are also the odd calmer days, especially in September in Essaouira when the winds tend to drop. So if you are planning to visit Essaouira to kitesurf, try and stay at least a few days to allow for changes in weather.

Regardless of when you decide to go, add this to your extreme bucket list ideas!

Glacier kayaking in Iceland

17. Go glacier kayaking in Iceland

You may have heard of kayaking in a lagoon before, but have you ever heard of kayaking in a glacier lagoon? This activity is only offered in a few places around the world, for example in Iceland.

However, glaciers are melting at a fast rate, so you should be sure to plan to go glacier kayaking as soon as possible. Eventually, there may be no glacier lagoons left on Earth!

One of the best places to go kayaking in a glacier lagoon is at Jökulsárlón in Iceland, also known as the Glacier Lagoon. Jökulsárlón is located in eastern Iceland approximately five and a half hours from Keflavík International Airport.

You have a few options for how to get there. You can rent a car and drive around the country or book a guided tour that stops at Jökulsárlón.

The Glacier Lagoon formed due to the melting of the largest glacier in Iceland. While it’s currently around seven square miles, it will increase in size over the years as the glacier continues to melt. Kayaking around the lagoon allows you to paddle around the lagoon and right past the largest icebergs currently there.

If you decide to drive, please be aware that you will need to book a kayaking tour individually. If you book a guided tour, please be sure to read all of the information provided as you still might need to book the kayaking tour separately. The tours are generally available from May to September, and they last approximately two hours long.

Wax palm forest in Colombia

18. Go mountain biking in the Wax Palm Forest of Colombia

For one of the most fun adventures to go on amid stunning scenery, go cycling in the wax palm forest near Salento, Colombia! It's a thrilling way to experience one of South America's most beloved tourist attractions and a must for every adventure bucket list.

A landmark of Colombia's historic Zona Cafetera, the Cocora Valley wax palms are a natural wonder. The tallest palm trees in the world attract visitors from all over, and for good reason. These endangered species tower hundreds of feet high in the clouds above the Andes Mountains.

Choosing to mountain bike down and through the forest is the exciting alternative to a bus tour of this popular tourist attraction. When finished, you'll have biked from 3,400 meters altitude!

As a base for seeing the wax palms and exploring Colombia's famous Zona Cafetera, you can't do better than charming Salento. Less than 30km from two major airports, Salento features a wide range of accommodations from budget to glamping and luxury. Mountain bike tours run daily from town.

Most tours drive you high up in the Andes Mountains to start the tour, avoiding the uphill climb. Once there, hop on the bike for the fun downhill ride back to town.

Along the way, you'll spot Colombian wildlife, enjoy fresh air and mountain views, all among the largest collection of wax palms in existence! The 30km downhill ride may be muddy, depending on weather conditions, but the tour includes coveralls to protect your clothing and a helmet to protect your head.

Skylodge in Peru

19. Sleep in a pod on the side of a cliff in Peru

A 5-star hotel? Meh. An adventurous million-star hotel? Now that sounds like something that should be added to every adventurer’s bucket list!

Skylodge Adventure Suites is a hotel unlike any other and consists of three glass sleeping pods and a dining pod overlooking the Sacred Valley in Peru. To sleep here, one must climb a via ferrata or zipline.

Once there, you will enjoy a gourmet Peruvian dinner and wine before climbing to your private pod and falling asleep under the stars. Now, do you get why it’s called a million-star hotel?

If this sounds like something that needs to be added to your offbeat travel bucket list immediately, here are some things to keep in mind. First, you don’t need to be an avid climber to enjoy this experience. Next, you may only be able to stay for one night - you will need to either book a tour from Cusco or book with the hotel directly.

Pack lots of layers no matter what time of year you go, and make sure you have good, lightweight hiking shoes. Finally, try to plan to go on a night without clouds and a clear sky if possible. That way you can strap on your gear and star gaze from your own personal deck on top of the pod.

There are a few options to get up to your pods, but true adventurers will want to climb up. And be sure to take the option to zipline down - there is nothing better than some good, old-fashioned repelling! If it isn’t in your budget to stay for the night, they offer lunch packages as well.

Either way, if you are exploring Peru, this is an adrenaline adventure not to be missed!

When it comes to ticking off bucket list items on your travels, visiting Thailand during Songkran Festival should be high on your list. Songkran, also known as the “water festival”, celebrates the Thai New Year.

It takes place every year on the 13th of April, but you can expect festivities to extend for five days after the big day. This is the biggest event of the year in Thailand and is celebrated with street parties, loud music, dancing, and most famously, a giant friendly water fight!

Throughout the day, you’ll find people having fun out on the streets with water guns, buckets of water, and anything else they can find. It is believed that the throwing of water washes away bad luck, so as you can imagine, people take water throwing to the extreme this time of year! It’s a nationwide festival so it really doesn’t matter where in Thailand you go to celebrate it, but travelers typically experience the biggest and best parties in large cities like Bangkok and Chiang Mai.

After the parade of Buddha statues, the streets open up for street parties, water fights, and live music.

This is a celebration not to be missed!

Swim with manatees in Florida

22. Swim with manatees in Florida

Every animal lover should add swimming with manatees at Crystal River to their bucket list. Every mid-November to late March, thousands of manatees migrate to Florida to conserve their energy in the constant 72 degrees Fahrenheit waters of Crystal River fed by Kings Bay. Tours take nature fans out on the water, hoping to see these unusual-looking mammals.

Not all manatee tours are created equal. Regardless of Florida law stating you should not interfere with or touch manatees, some companies don't adhere to this and let customers do so. So be sure to book with a reputable company.

The itinerary for the exciting day begins with an educational video while you change into a wetsuit and gather your snorkel kit. Then a guide takes swimmers out to the roped-off areas that allow tours to observe the manatees.

There isn't much swimming involved, as your goal is to float on the water while watching manatees sleeping, swimming, and pooping below. They poop a lot!

Manatees are curious and might brush past you; guides say this is okay, but don't touch them. You won't need to huddle around the manatees to study them as you'll get a lot out of observing from afar. They really are fascinating, and it is easy to see why they get called sea cows!

adventurous things to do in Europe: Isle of Harris - Hebridean Way in Scotland

23. Walk the Hebridean Way in Scotland

Northwest of mainland Scotland is a group of islands called the Outer Hebrides. It consists of more than 70 islands but most are not inhabited.

One of the best ways to see the islands is walking or cycling the Hebridean Way which is a 200-mile path through the 10 largest islands. No permit is required and ferries from the mainland make it easy to get to the start and end point of the route.

The walking path is more picturesque, being largely along the beaches and coastline. The cycle route follows the road that runs through the islands.

Start your journey in Vatersay in the south and go all the way to the Butt of Lewis lighthouse in the North. It is best to travel in this direction to have the wind and the sun behind you.

If cycling the route, expect to spend at least 6 days on the journey. Walking will take around 12 days. If you are fit, it is possible to do it in less time, just don’t forget that you need to carry your backpack with your clothes, food, and water for the day.

Wild camping is legal in Scotland which allows for greater freedom when planning the route since accommodation on the island is limited. Hotels and guesthouses also get booked up early so make sure you plan your trip well in advance, or go with an organized tour.

Good quality waterproof gear and boots will be the most important things to pack. Also, make sure you wear trousers and long sleeves. There are ticks in the area so you should tuck your trousers into your socks every morning and check yourself each evening.

Once you get these logistics squared away, be prepared for some mind-blowing beauty!

Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania

24. Hike Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania

Hiking Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is one of those extreme bucket list ideas that every adventurer should prioritize. At 5895 meters, it’s the highest free-standing mountain in the world. Yet, it’s possible for even a regular hiker to summit—as long as altitude sickness doesn’t get in the way. Even if you don’t make it to the top, the experience of hiking and camping on this iconic stratovolcano is worth every step.

There are several routes to choose from, but all will take hikers through a variety of landscapes including lush rainforests, shrubby moorland, and hardy alpine desert up to the arctic ecological zone at the summit. Choosing a route depends on the amount of time you have and costs you can afford, though the longer the route, the greater chances of success because it allows more time for acclimatization. The Marangu route, for example, which is the only one with hut-style accommodations, is shorter at 5-6 days, while Lemosho and Machame are longer routes at 7-8 days.

Any Kilimanjaro climb requires a tour with guides and porters. When planning this bucket list-worthy trek, it’s important to choose a good quality tour operator that treats porters well; consider choosing one that is part of the Kilimanjaro Porter Assistance Program. Porters are responsible for carrying up most luggage, cooking, and setting up camp, so it’s essential that they are well-paid and taken care of.

Permits to enter the National Park and daily conservation fees are required, and these will be paid for by your guides upon arrival. Dry season (July to October and December to February) is considered the best time to go.

Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is the epitome of adventure. The hike up to the “Roof of Africa” will challenge you in a multitude of ways, but the breathtaking views from the peak of the crater rim looking down at the cloud-covered valley below is the ultimate reward.

Lion in Kruger National Park

25. Go for a safari in Kruger National Park in South Africa

Imagine exploring the beautiful African savannah, feeling the sun on your skin, listening to the sounds of the wild, and witnessing an array of creatures from elephants and giraffes to rhinoceroses and lions.

Located in South Africa, Kruger National Park boasts 6 distinct ecosystems, ranging from grassy plains to acacia woods. Spanning 19,000 square kilometers of land and water, this park offers an abundance of beauty with its 147 species of mammals, 114 reptile varieties, 51 snake types, 49 fish kinds, and a whopping 508 bird breeds. Add to that that this park is home to the big five: buffalos, elephants, lions, leopards, and rhinos (both black and white), and it’s no wonder that a safari in Kruger National Park is a must on any adrenaline junkie bucket list.

Once inside the park, you can choose from a variety of activities including game drives, walking safaris, and bird watching. Join guided tours and bush walks highlighting the fantastic landscape, or go on a self-drive safari.

The price tag of a safari to Kruger National Park fluctuates depending on the type of tour you select when you visit, and how long your journey is. If you're searching for an inexpensive option, opt-in for self-drive safaris. However if budget isn't an issue, then lodges and guided tours will be the ideal choice.

Kruger National Park is easily accessible by air, land, and even water with a number of options available to take you there. From Johannesburg International Airport, flights are available to the nearby Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA). There is also a network of roads connecting the various gates to the park.

The best time to visit depends on what type of wildlife you would like to see – for predators such as lions or leopards, the cooler months from May to September are best. This is also the best time for bird watching. The warmer months from October to April are better for viewing grazers such as elephants and buffalos.

Regardless of when you visit, Kruger National Park is a magical place offering an array of activities, spectacular scenery, and abundant wildlife. A safari in Kruger is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you will never forget!

Erg Chebbi in the Sahara Desert of Morocco

29. Camp in the Sahara Desert in Morocco

One of the most awe-inspiring adventure destinations in the world is Merzouga in Morocco. This small town in the desert is located in the southeastern part of the country and is famous for the Erg Chebbi. If you are planning a trip to the desert in Morocco, then this famous area is a must on your itinerary.

The Erg Chebbi is one of the most beautiful parts of the Sahara Desert, a unique landscape of towering sand dunes as far as your eyes can see. It is like somethign out of a picture book! Great Ocean Road in Australia

30. Drive the Great Ocean Road in Australia

Add one more to your Australia bucket list: Driving the Great Ocean Road. It’s an expedition idea that should be on everyone’s list. This 150-mile stretch of paradise in southern Australia is regularly voted as one of the most scenic drives in the world, and for good reason.

A road trip along the Great Ocean Road offers up dozens of beautiful beaches, numerous picturesque towns, and plenty of iconic landmarks. Whether you go with a guide or on your own, it’s one of the best things to do in Australia.

To start your Great Ocean Road adventure, you’ll want to fly into the city of Melbourne - the closest major city - and get your hands on a rental car. The town of Torquay, which marks the starting point of the route, takes just over an hour to drive to from Melbourne.

Once you're on the road, there are several must-see attractions to hit up. The Twelve Apostles is the most famous site along the way: a series of towering limestone stacks that rise from the ocean and are over 20 million years old.

If you love to hike, you can wander the trails of Great Otway National Park, which is home to rainforests, waterfalls, and coastal views. The charming seaside towns of Lorne, Apollo Bay, and Port Campbell are also worth a visit, with their picturesque beaches, shops, and restaurants. And if you love a good adrenaline adventure rush, head to Bells Beach and grab a board: it’s the surf capital of Australia!

To make the most of the Great Ocean Road, be sure to plan ahead and allow plenty of time for stops and exploring. The road can be narrow and winding in places, so it's important to take your time and drive carefully or go with a guide. And, keep an eye out for any koalas up in the trees!

Half Dome in Yosemite National Park

31. Hike Half Dome in Yosemite National Park, California

Yosemite National Park is probably the most famous West Coast National Park, and it is a bucket list-worthy destination in and of itself. But for adventure enthusiasts, there’s one spot in the park that stands out: Half Dome. One of Yosemite’s most iconic granite formations, Half Dome begs to be explored, drawing adrenaline-seeking hikers and climbers from all over the globe.

Summiting the 8,844-foot-tall monolith involves a minimum 14.5-mile hike that gains 4,800 feet in elevation. At the end, there’s a harrowing, near-vertical climb up the infamous Half Dome Cables. It’s well worth it for those brave enough to take it on, though, as the views from the top truly make you feel like you’re on top of the world.

In order to summit Yosemite’s crown jewel, you need to win a permit through the Half Dome lottery or go with a group that procures the permits for you. There are a few ways to secure this permit on your own, including the advance lottery several months out and a daily lottery, which hopeful adventurers enter two days before their intended hike. You can also enter the Half Dome lottery as part of a Yosemite wilderness permit application, if you intend to turn it into a multi-day backpacking trip.

Regardless of how you get your permit, you should definitely book overnight accommodations in the park. Yosemite is enormous, and even the closest towns just outside the park are still an hour or more from Yosemite Valley. After finishing this brutal hike/climb, the last thing you’ll want to do is drive to your hotel or campsite!

Snowhotel Kirkenes in Norway

32. Sleep in an igloo in Norway

If you’re looking for an offbeat travel experience, you’ll love staying in an Ice Hotel in Norway! You can book a night at the Snowhotel Kirkenes (open 365 days) located 8 km outside the small town of Kirkenes in the far northern part of Norway, near the borders with Finland and Russia.

You will be amazed from the moment you arrive as you make your way through the long ice tunnel entrance to the reception area. The chairs are made of solid ice, and you’ll find beautiful sculptures sitting on the ice bar.

This hotel is basically a huge igloo made up of 13 rooms, including 6 double bed rooms and 7 family rooms with 4 beds. Your dome-shaped room will have a bed made of ice, with blankets and sleeping bags.

The sleeping bag covers your entire body except for a small face opening to breathe. The temperature in your room will be a chilly -4 degrees Celsius (25 degrees Fahrenheit).

The showers and toilets are in a separate heated building and there is a heated restaurant on site. If sleeping in a cold igloo is too adventurous for you, they also provide individual heated cabins with private baths.

The most exciting time to visit this area is in winter where you can partake in other adventures such as husky dog sledding, fjord snowmobiling, or viewing the Aurora Borealis (northern lights). Sleeping in an igloo may be too cold for some, but it’s well worth considering this experience for your next fun adventure to go on!

Pamir Highway in Tajikistan

33. Travel the Pamir Highway in Tajikistan

As the second-highest highway in the world, the Pamir Highway is one of the most adventurous places to visit in Asia. Most people start traveling the Pamir Highway in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, then follow the road across the entire country before ending up in Kyrgyzstan’s border town Osh. This journey is about 1200 kilometers long.

The best way to travel the Pamir Highway is by booking a tour with a private driver, which you can do in Dushanbe. You can choose how many days you’d like to spend and what places you want to see along the way. If you’re on short on time, you can explore parts of the highway in five or six days, but if you want to drive the entire highway, you should plan for at least 10 days.

Along the way, you’ll mainly stay in local homestays in small Tajik villages. Your hosts will be preparing dinner and breakfast for you every day, and you can get a feel for what life is like in the remote parts of Tajikistan. Some highlights along the way include hiking in the Pamir mountains (for example, the absolutely breathtaking one-day Engels Peak Meadow Hike), stopping at the Ak-Baital-Pass (the highest point of the highway with an altitude of 4655 meters), and visiting secluded alpine lakes like Karakul Lake in the northwest of Tajikistan.

On top of these highlights, you’ll be driving along the Afghan border for several hundred kilometers, with only a river separating the two countries. While driving, you’ll be able to spot small villages on the other side of the water, so you can not only explore the Tajik culture, but also see how people live in the neighboring country. So, if you’re up for a unique travel adventure and you want to get off the beaten path, traveling the Pamir Highway should definitely be on your list!

Mt. Fuji in Japan

34. Climb Mt. Fuji in Japan

Mount Fuji, also known as Fuji-san, is Japan’s tallest and most iconic mountain standing at 12,389 feet tall. It is located on Honshu Island and is an active volcano that last erupted in the early 1700s. It is considered a sacred site in Japan and is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Located 62 miles Southwest of Tokyo, Mount Fuji is easily reached by train via Shinjuku Station and takes approximately two hours. Though December is the best time to view Mount Fuji from afar, there are better things to do in Japan in December than climb Mount Fuji.

Climbing season is during the summer months from July to mid-September. Though it can technically be climbed year-round, the summer is when all of the trails and mountain facilities are open, and it is not recommended to climb off-season.

Mount Fuji is considered a beginner-friendly mountain, but you still need a moderate fitness level to climb. There are four main trails, the easiest and most popular being the Yoshida Trail. It takes approximately 6 hours to ascend and 4 hours to descend along a different route.

There are mountain huts along the trail, including one halfway where climbers can rest. The weather can change drastically throughout the trail, so wearing layers and bringing waterproof clothing is important.

Your breath will be taken away when you reach the summit and see yourself standing above the clouds. For an even more memorable view, plan on reaching the summit during sunrise after sleeping overnight in one of the mountain huts.

Mount Etna in Italy

36. Hike the Mount Etna Volcano in Italy

Hiking Mount Etna, one of the most active and beautiful volcanoes in the world, should without a doubt be on every extreme bucket list. Towering at 3,326 meters (10,912 feet), Mount Etna is one of the highest active volcanoes in Europe.

How high you can climb Mount Etna depends on how intense its volcanic activities are. Currently, the highest crater you can climb is situated at 2,900 meters (9,515 feet).

You need to dedicate an entire day for your trip to Mount Etna. You can reach Mount Etna from Catania by AST, one of the local bus companies, or join a tour. From other locations, you will need to have your own car.

The first bus from Catania to the Sapienza Refuge at Mount Etna departs at 8:15 from Plazza Giovanni XCIII. The journey takes 2 hours. The last bus leaves for Catania at 16:30.

You can start your hike from 1,923 meters (6,310 feet) where the bus drops you, at Sapienza Refuge. For the hike itself, you will need about 6 hours.

The landscape on the way up is mind-boggling. The beginning of the trail is quite steep and rocky. Then, the landscape changes after 2,500 meters (8,202 feet).

The higher you get on Mt. Etna, the more you will be convinced that you’ve left Earth and have been teleported to the moon. The terrain is black and sandy, and there are huge blackish rocks scattered everywhere across the sand. As you approach the craters, you can see volcanic cones.

At times, your visibility will be blocked by steam clouds leaving the fumarole. It’s scary and exciting at the same time! And, the highlight of this epic hike is the colorful crater situated at 2,900 meters (9,515 feet).

Take note that the weather will keep changing second by second as you get closer to the craters. You can experience sunny, cold, warm, foggy, cloudy, windy, rainy, or snowy weather in the course of an hour, so be sure to dress for it all.

Mt. Etna is one of those wild bucket list ideas that everyone should experience once in their lives. It’s seriously one of the craziest and weirdest places in the universe!
