with kids in Ghana

I started this blog back in 2019. At the time, my only goal was to make enough money to cover the costs of hosting it. I promised myself that if the blog ever actually made a profit, I would give back.

For several years, I remained in the red. Finally, in 2023 I was able to make my first donation to charity, and I hope to continue to do so for many years to come.

HERE’S MY GIVE BACK COMMITMENT TO YOU:

I believe that we should do everything we can to get where we want to be in life through education, hard work, and self-improvement. But I’ve also learned from my own struggles that there’s so much in life that, no matter how hard we try, we just can’t control. If we’re lucky enough to get our own air masks on, it’s time to start helping others get theirs on.

One of my professors in business school said: “Unless you have done something good for society, you should be ashamed to die.” It’s a bit melodramatic to be sure, but that statement hit home with me.

This blog is my commitment to giving back. I want to share the lessons that have helped me feel better, the travels that have helped me grow, and the people that have inspired me to help uplift and empower YOU. As part of this same commitment:

I am donating 10% of every dollar earned from this blog to charity.

So, if you see ads on my website or make a purchase by clicking one of the affiliate links I share, please know that your money is helping others (at no additional cost to you). Thank you for making that possible!

I’M CURRENTLY SUPPORTING: GLOBAL GRASSROOTS

I first met the founder of Global Grassroots, Gretchen, in grad school. I was blown away by the incredible work her and her team are doing with women in Rwanda, Uganda, South Sudan, and Kenya. Their mission focusing on the power that women have to impact their communities really hit home with me.

The women they work with are marginalized and living in the deepest poverty. They are dealing with challenges like domestic violence, clean water availability, and illiteracy.

Global Grassroots is providing these women with trauma healing after they have been the victims of genocide or gender-based violence. They are also giving them training, skills, and tools to help their post-conflict communities. They believe that a woman who has the capability, resources, and courage to initiate positive change for herself and others is one of the most effective means of achieving this change.
